Mario's restaurant officially opens new location tonight in Penfield

Mario's restaurant will officially open Tuesday night at its newest location on Irondequoit Bay in Penfield at the site of the old Bazil's restaurant.

A temporary sign with its new branding as Mario's Homemade Pasta Kitchen now hangs over the old Bazil's sign. In addition, there's Mario's Ice Cream on the Bay on the side of the restaurant at Empire Blvd., where patrons may stop in for cool treats and relax on its new patio. The Daniele family that owns Mario's also owns Southpoint Marina at the site.

Keeping up with food trends, Mario's focus is on a new pasta concept, featuring fresh egg and semolina homemade pasta, ravioli, and gnocchi made daily. In a statement, patriarch Mario Daniele described the concept as “a fresh, homemade pasta kitchen themed restaurant born from my roots of growing up eating in my mother’s kitchen in Castelnuovo, Italy.”

Southpoint Restaurant and Bar open on the bay in Penfield

The location was just too irresistible for bar owners and restaurateurs Mark Chiarenza, John Diamantopoulos and Marty Cordy.

Perched off Irondequoit Bay in Penfield with a panoramic view of the bay, a 4, square-foot restaurant space became available for lease to complement the expanded Southpoint Marina and Pool Club.

The trio of experienced restaurateurs, who collectively own about a dozen bars and restaurants in the region separately, decided to pool their resources to open Southpoint Restaurant and Bar.

Penfield's newest restaurant is at Empire Blvd. next to Bazil's, which is owned and operated by the Daniele Family, who is the developer of Southpoint.

"They are reputable operators who would bring a quality restaurant to the area," said Anthony Daniele, a family owner of Daniele Family Companies.

The restaurant hosted a soft opening in May as the first boaters of the season arrived. Designed in a rustic chic style, the space features a large bar area where people can congregate.
