Alone of all the sons, Devadas stayed near his father, sometimes being granted the privilege of serving as his secretary. 
Mohandas acted as midwife at the delivery of his youngest son, Devadas Gandhi ().

In May , at the age of 13, Gandhi was married through his parents' arrangements to Kasturba Makhanji (also spelled "Kasturbai" or known as "Ba"). They had four sons: Harilal Gandhi, born in ; Manilal Gandhi, born in ; Ramdas Gandhi, born in ; and Devdas Gandhi, born in  
Harilal Mohandas Gandhi ( 18th June ) was the first son of Mahatma Gandhi. 
Mahatma would not allow his son to study law as a show of rebellion against a Western education  and Harilal eventually grew weary of this, and rebelled. Harilal converted to Islam and adopted the name "Abdullah Gandhi", but later again converted to Hinduism 

In Early years Harilal helped his father in revolution against British Government for their attitude about racism. He had always wanted to go for higher studies and wanted to become a barrister like his father, but because of his weakness in studies, he could not complete his high-school his wife and son.

Due to Lakshmi's age at that time – she was only fifteen, whereas Devdas was twenty eight years – both Devdas's father and Rajaji asked the couple to wait for five years without seeing each other. After five years had passed, they were married with their fathers' permissions in Devdas and Lakshmi had four children, Rajmohan Gandhi, Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Ramchandra Gandhi and Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee (born 24 April , New Delhi)

Devdas Gandhi was the last son of Mahatma Gandhi and the son-in-law of C. Rajagopalachari, the two great Indian personalities who shaped India in the 20th century. Following his father’s steps Devdas was also associated with freedom struggle movement. He was born in South Africa on 22 May , in those days when Gandhi spent his early years in South Africa, and returned to India along with his parents at a younger age. He later became a prominent journalist, serving as editor of Hindustan Times.
