These bloody fat-cats who raped and pillaged our nation, especially for example such as this duo who are alleged to have committed a multi-$Million bribery scheme &#; should not be released whimsically by the judiciary of SL What the simple-minded (linday-inna-madiya) judges in SL don&#;t realize is that these vile fat-cats have amassed such mega fortunes abroad that I hear it&#;s just child&#;s play for them to flee any nation, get brand new IDs and personal documents and change their identity for good and register abroad as someone else and then buy lavish property, vehicles, etc. and go to the extent even of paying for facial plastic-surgery to alter vital ID features &#; and happily live ever afer abroad!
Hope this present GOSL knows what it&#;s doing and watching these suspected fat-cats&#; movements with all due precision. When the Board of SriLankan Airlines in approved the purchase of a new fleet of Airbuses with Rolls Royce engines for Rs bn, the company’s total assets were at Rs bn. This meant the planes cost nearly double what the entire national carrier was worth at the time.
Kapila Chandrasena, then Chief Executive Officer (CEO), led a four-member ‘working committee’ that negotiated the deals. He and his wife, Priyanka Wijenayake, were remanded this week. They are accused of accepting US$ 2 mn (Rs mn) out of a total US$ mn (Rs 3bn) bribe promised in return for ensuring SriLankan bought aircraft from Airbus.
The other members of the working committee were Chief Operations Officer Captain Druvi Perera, Head of Finance Yasantha Dissanayaka and Head of Engineering Division Priyantha Rose.

Former SriLankan Airlines CEO Sanctioned by US for Corruption
The United States has imposed sanctions on Kapila Chandrasena, the former CEO of SriLankan Airlines, as part of a broader anti-corruption initiative. Chandrasena, who led the airline from to , was among 14 individuals designated for sanctions on December 9, , coinciding with International Anti-Corruption Day.
According to a media release from the US State Department, Chandrasena was sanctioned under Section (c) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act. The department cited his involvement in significant corruption, specifically accepting a bribe in his capacity as CEO to facilitate Sri Lanka&#;s purchase of Airbus aircraft at inflated prices. The designation extends to members of his immediate family.
The investigation revealed that the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company N.V., Airbus&#;s parent company, had transferred $2 million to a bank account in Singapore controlled by Chandrasena’s wife, Priyanka Neomali Wijenayake. These funds were later moved to Chandrasena’s account in Australia.

KUALA LUMPUR: The former chief executive officer (CEO) of SriLankan Airlines was arrested yesterday following allegations he received bribes for a multibillion-US dollar Airbus aircraft deal, AFP reported.
Kapila Chandrasena, who was the CEO of Sri Lanka’s national carrier in when the Airbus purchase was made, was remanded in custody for two weeks after being charged with money laundering and bribery.
His wife, Priyanka Niyomali Wijenayaka, was also arrested on money laundering charges, AFP reported.
On Feb 3, Reuters reported that the office of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said in a statement that Sri Lanka will conduct “a comprehensive investigation into reports of allegations over financial irregularities” after Airbus SE agreed to settle a corruption probe with regulators.
Sri Lanka was among the countries whose officials were mentioned as having allegedly received bribes in Airbus’s US$4-billion settlement with European and US authorities.
