Native Oklahoman, actress dies at 76 Appeared in 'League of Their Own'
LOS ANGELES Veteran actress Lynn Cartwright, best known for her portrayal of the older Geena Davis character in "A League of Their Own," died Friday.
She was
Cartwright, a native Oklahoman, died of dementia-related illnesses after a hip fracture, her daughter Tara Gordon said Tuesday.
Her health had begun to decline in December after the death of her husband of 50 years, screenwriter and Western star Leo Gordon.
The tall, auburn-haired beauty appeared in such popular s television shows as "Highway Patrol," "Man Called X" and "Bat Masterson."
She also appeared in the Zsa Zsa Gabor cult film "Queen of Outer Space."
She also appeared in such local stage productions as "Four Women" and "Final Touches."
Cartwright worked for 15 years with the Group Repertory Theater in Los Angeles.
Her biggest break in films didn't come until she was 65, when director Penny Marshall selected her for the movie, "A League of Their Own."
The film followed the story of two sisters involved in the nation's first female professional baseball league.
Cartwright played the older version of one of the sisters, Dottie Hinson.

Leo Vincent Gordon, Jr. was born December 2, , in Brooklyn, New York. His family lived in poverty and he left school in the eighth grade to work in construction and demolition. Next came the Civilian Conservation Corps. After that, in , Leo enlisted in the Army and served two years.
After the war, Gordon was arrested for armed robbery in southern California. During the ordeal, he pulled a gun and was shot in the stomach. Leo served five years in San Quentin, where he furthered his education by reading nearly every book in the prison library. (The mugshot was for a fight later, not the robbery arrest.)
