Pakistan Army pays tribute to Shaheed Lance Naik Mahfuz on 50th martyrdom anniversary
RAWALPINDI – The 50th martyrdom anniversary of Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed today (Saturday).
In his message on Twitter, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar has paid rich tribute to Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed for his courage in the Pakistan-India war.
The gallant son of 15 Punjab Regiment hailed from Pind Malkan, Rawalpindi. After completion of Basic Military Training in , he joined Pakistan Army and was placed in 15 Punjab Regiment.
Mehfuz took part in the Indo-Pak War of at Wagah Border. On the night of December 17, a company of the 15 Punjab was ordered to attack Kangri Pull inside enemy territory and during the attack, a bomb exploded near Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz in which he got badly injured and his machine-gun became out of order.
The gallant troop crawled into a nearby trench of a shaheed firer and got hold of his machine gun and started firing. He later crawled towards the enemy trench and on reaching within 10 yards, caught the enemy firer by his neck and pushed him to death.
Lance Naik Mohammad Mahfooz Shaheed (Nishan-i-Haider) was born on 25 October, in Pind Malikan (now Mahfuzabad), Rawalpindi district. He was enlisted in the Army on 25 October, Serving in 'A' Company of 15 Punjab Regiment when war broke out in , Lance Naik Mohammad Mahfooz was deployed on the Wagha-Attari Sector in East Pakistan where his company was pinned down by unceasing frontal and crossfire from automatic weapons.
Although his machine gun was destroyed by an enemy shell, Mahfooz advanced towards an enemy bunker whose automatic fire had inflicted heavy casualties. Even though wounded in both legs by shell splinters, when he reached the bunker he stood up and pounced on the enemy, but was hit. Although unarmed, he caught hold of one enemy was slowly strangling him when another bayoneted him to death during the night on 17 December He was 27 years old.Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfouz Shaheed was born on 25 October in pind Malikan, the new name of village is “Mahfuzabad” in Islamabad as the honour of his martyrdom. This village is located in Rawalpindi District Punjab.
On 25 October he joined Pak Army as an infantry soldier. In during indo-pak war, the 15th Punjab regiment deployed in the “Wagah Attari sector” beside the Indian border. In “A” company lance Naik Muhammad Mahfouz was operator of a “light machine gun”. 17 December his machine gun was destroyed by an Indian shell and heavy fires are comes from enemies sides. During fighting he wounded in his legs and unarmed, but still he handle all situation alone with very bravery, at least he received martyrdom and gave their life for country safety and best future of Pakistan.
He was at lance Naik rank and the service period was to He was in 15th Punjab regiment and performed in two wars like indo-pak war in and indo-pak war in , and he embraced shahadat on 17 December
He was awarded the highest military award of “” on 23 March on his bravery.

Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfuz Shaheed is one of those ten great sons of this country, who in the line of duty and in defence of their country, showed extra ordinary bravery and courage and were awarded with the highest military award of the land, Nishan-e-Haider.
Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfuz s/o Meherban Khan, was born in in a small village Pind Malkan now renamed in his honour as Mahufazabad, district Rawalpindi, now in the vicinity of sprawling Islamabad city and actually within the limits of Islamabad Capital Territory. It is situated only 27 kms away from the Zero Point. One can easily reach there while turning towards Kahuta Road from the Islamabad Highway. The tomb is located at 33&#;35'"N, 73&#;15'"E.
