Assam is known for the variety of its culture, and the state's history reveals the cultural contributions made by its inhabitants. Many figures have contributed vastly to the Assamese culture and heritage.
One name is indisputable whenever Assamese culture is discussed: Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva. He has given Assam some very inspiring and notable literary and cultural achievements.
LIFE OF SRIMANTA SANKARDEVA
In the year AD, Sankardeva was born in Alipukhuri, Nagaon. He was born during an era of downfall for Assamese literature, language, and culture. At the young age of 7, he lost both his father Kusumbar Bhuyan and his mother Satyasandha Devi. He was raised by his grandmother Kherxuti.
At the age of 12, he joined Mahendra Kandali's school to start learning Indian scriptures and grammar. He didn't know the vowels at the time when he penned his first poetry "karata-kamala." Outside of their academics, he taught himself the art of Yoga, which aided in the development of his physicality. According to several folklores, Sankardev was also capable of crossing the mighty Brahmaputra river by swimming.

Sankaradeva () was born in a Bhuya family at Alipukhuri, a village on the south bank of the Brahmaputra, about sixteen miles from the present town of Nowgong. The Bhuyas at that time were powerful feudal lords, enjoying social privileges granted by the king. Sankara`s family was called the Siromani Bhuya, being the chief among the Bhuyas. His father was Kusumbara. Sankara`s mother died within three days of his birth, and he was brought up by his grand-mother, Khersuti. When Sankara was twelve years old he was sent to a village school maintained by Mahendra Kandali, an erudite Sanskrit scholar.
Sankara completed his studies at the age of twenty-two and emerged a full-fledged scholar. Soon after he left school heavy domestic responsibilities fell upon his young shoulders. He was married to Suryavati, a Kayastha bride. Suryavati died four years after her marriage, leaving an infant daughter. About the same time Sankara lost his father. These two bereavements filled his youthful mind with overwhelming sorrow and he thought of renouncing the world. Srimanta Sankardev শ্ৰীমন্ত শংকৰদেৱ, also known as Sankardev or Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, [ महापुरुष श्रीमंत शंकरदेव ]was a 15th-century saint, scholar, poet, playwright, and social reformer from Assam, a state in northeastern India. He is considered the father of Assamese culture and revered as a saint and spiritual leader by Assam&#;s people.

Sankardev was born in CE in Bordowa [ बोरदोवा ], in the Nagaon district of Assam, which was then the principality of his father Sirumoni Kushumbar Bhuyan [ सिरूमोनी कुशुम्बर भुइयां ], the chief of the Bhuyan clan, originally hailing from Kanauj about years back, before his birth. His mother&#;s name was Satyasandha [ सत्यचंधा ]. Soon after his birth, he lost his mother, and his father also died a little later.
