Wilson biography eddie and the cruisers die

When Eddie and the Cruisers came out in it was either ignored or received negatively by critics and performed poorly at the box office. However, over the years it has quietly cultivated a small but dedicated cult following. The film is primarily a mystery &#; what happened to musician Eddie Wilson? &#; and it also an unabashed love letter to rock &#;n&#; roll and the New Jersey shore in the s. It has been over 35 years since the film was released and it is high time for a re-evaluation of this under-appreciated gem.

Maggie Foley (Ellen Barkin) is a journalist for Media magazine and is doing a retrospective piece on Eddie and the Cruisers, a New Jersey bar band that was a minor sensation in the s with one hit record and the top song in country during the summer of The band were working on an ambitious follow-up when lead singer Eddie Wilson (Michael Pare) drove his car off a pier and met with a watery demise on March 15, Or did he? No body was found. Maggie&#;s hook is that maybe Eddie didn&#;t die. She draws a parallel between him and French poet Arthur Rimbaud, who like Eddie, pulled a disappearing act at the height of his popularity while striving for perfection in hi

Over the weekend, I got the itch to watch Eddie and the Cruisersagain. [A movie about the mysterious disappearance of lead singer Eddie Wilson and a journalist&#;s attempt to get to the bottom of it.] The movie was released in and I probably saw it for the first time in the mids. I saw it again in the late 80s, but not since then.

One particular scene in the movie really stuck with me when I first saw it and I loved it just as much this time around too.

Eddie Wilson, the leader singer in the group, has a disagreement about the the way bass player Sal Amato wants to play &#;Betty Lou&#;s Got a New Pair of Shoes.&#; Amato wants it to be upbeat without any pauses in the lyrics. Wilson on the other hand says, &#;I&#;m just saying words. You gotta give me a little room so people know what I&#;m singing about.&#;

As the debate goes on, Wilson asks for the opinion of a guy named Frank who works at the club they are practicing in. Frank is a little shy at first but he comes over and here&#;s what transpires:

&#;Now you heard what we&#;re talking about,&#; Wilson says, &#;What do you think?&#;

&#;I think he&#;s right,&#; Frank says. &#;I think it needs a caesura.&#;

Eddie and the Cruisers

As television news reporter Maggie Foley embarks on an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of cult rock icon Eddie Wilson, she uncovers a rich tapestry of memories that reveals the tumultuous journey of his band, the Cruisers. The story kicks off at Tony Mart’s club in Somers Point, New Jersey, where Eddie reignites his passion for music through a chance collaboration with Frank Ridgeway, known as “Wordman,” who serves as the band’s lyricist and keyboard player.

At first, the formation of the Cruisers raised eyebrows with their manager Doc Robbins and bassist Sal Amato, who expressed concerns that Wordman’s contribution might detract from the band’s pop appeal. However, as Eddie, along with saxophonist Wendell Newton, background vocalist Joann Carlino, and drummer Kenny Hopkins, begin to harmonize, their distinct sound emerges. The band’s debut album, Tender Years, skyrockets to success, but the creative strain that follows eventually leads to their undoing.

Eddie’s unrelenting quest for excellence tests the limits of his bandmates as they start work on their second album, A Season in Hell. Drawing inspiration

Plot

Television news reporter Maggie Foley investigates the mysterious disappearance of cult rock star Eddie Wilson. Flashbacks dramatize Eddie's life and the rise and fall of his band, the Cruisers.

The band gets its start at a club in Somers Point, New Jersey named Tony Mart's. Not adept at writing lyrics, Eddie hires Frank Ridgeway aka "Wordman" to be the band's keyboard player and lyricist, over the protests of band manager Doc Robbins and bassist Sal Amato. Rounding out the Cruisers are saxophonist Wendell Newton, background singer and Eddie's girlfriend Joann Carlino, and drummer Kenny Hopkins.

The band's first album, Tender Years, becomes a major hit, but recording their next album, A Season in Hell, turns out to be a nightmare. Inspired by the bleak, fatalistic poetry of Arthur Rimbaud, Eddie wants something far more ambitious than their previous pop songs and he pushes his bandmates beyond their limits, musically and pers
