Biography of Andrea del Sarto
Andrea del Sarto was an Italian artist of the Florentine school. He was born on July 16, , in Florence. Among his early works are five frescoes illustrating the life of St. Philip Benizi in the courtyard of the Santissima Annunziata church in Florence, painted between and These frescoes show a departure from the traditional style of Quattrocento painting, although they do not fully represent Andrea del Sarto's own style, they are still professionally executed.
After four years of work, studying Michelangelo's drawings and possibly Raphael's frescoes in Rome, the artistic capabilities of Andrea del Sarto expanded significantly. In his fresco "The Nativity of the Virgin" (), painted in the same church, a broader interpretation and emotional expressiveness emerged. In , Andrea del Sarto married Lucrezia del Fede and in the same year, he painted his famous "Madonna with the Harpies" (, Florence, Uffizi Gallery). Lucrezia may have served as the model for

He was known as an outstanding fresco decorator, painter of altar-pieces, portraitist, draughtsman and colorist. Though highly regarded during his lifetime as an artist senza errori ("without errors"), his renown was eclipsed after his death by that of his contemporaries, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael.
Andrea del Sarto was born Andrea d'Agnolo di Francesco di Luca in Florence on 16 July Since his father, Agnolo, was a tailor (Italian: sarto), he became known as "del Sarto" (meaning "tailor's son"). Since some have attributed the surname Vannucchi with little documentation. Early Life
Born Andrea d'Agnolo, but dubbed "del Sarto" (tailor's son) after his father's trade, he was first taught goldsmithing before he trained as a painter under Gian Barile, Piero di Cosimo (), and later Raffaellino del Garbo. In he was accepted as a member of the guild of Medici e Speziali, and from he shared a studio with Jacopo Sansovino and Franciabigio. He first made his name by completing a program of mural painting depicting the Miracles of St Filippo Benizzi (), for the basilica (Santissima Annunziata) of the Servite convent in Florence, where he worked alongside other fresco painters like Franciabigio and Andrea Feltrini. In addition, he painted an Annunciation in the monastery of St Gallo (), as well as a number of grisaille paintings in the Chiostro dello Scalzo of the Scalzi in Florence (), illustrating the life of John the Baptist. After this, in , he married Lucrezia (del Fede), who went on to act as the model for a number of his Madonnas, and then executed his most famous frescoes - the Birth of the Virgin () and the Madonna del Sacco () - which succeed in combining elements from Leonardo () and Domen
